Transition Attempts per 60 Leaders

2024-25All situationsThrough 82 team games

The classic "rush attempt" rule (a shot within 4 seconds of a neutral- or defensive-zone event) flags under 2% of attempts on today's play-by-play. Our transition definition follows the possession chain instead: the chain has to start with a turnover, recovery, hit-forced recovery or faceoff win outside the offensive zone, and the shot has to come within 10 seconds in the same play.

That catches about 8% of 5-on-5 attempts and 9% of expected goals. This board ranks the players who personally take those shots most often, per 60 minutes.

Leader in 2024-25: Michael Eyssimont (TBL/SEA), 3.01 TRN/60.

How to read it

Individual attempts per 60. The count column is the raw number of transition shots, so you can see how much the rate rests on.

How reliable is it?

Team-level transition rates are solid; player-level rates are fair. Read them with the count beside them.
