Why Edgehalla: Your Fantasy Hockey Advantage

Fantasy hockey is won in the margins: an extra game on an off-night, a goalie confirmed an hour before puck drop, a winger who quietly moved to PP1. Edgehalla is built to find those margins for you, from NHL data we process ourselves, with the methods written down. Here is what that means in practice.

Where the edge comes from

  • One dashboard for Fantrax and ESPN leagues

Connect a Fantrax league (public or private) or an ESPN league (public by ID, private with your espn_s2 and SWID cookies, stored encrypted) and get the same weekly view either way: roster, games this week, current matchup and projections. Head-to-head category and points leagues are both supported. Yahoo sync is temporarily unavailable while Yahoo’s third-party API access is paused.

  • Matchup projections that blend seasons

Early in the season, small samples lie. Week 1 projections lean entirely on last season, then shift weight to the current season week by week (80/20, 60/40, 40/60) until they run on this season alone from week 5. Combined with each player’s remaining games, that gives projected category totals or fantasy points, and a win probability for the matchup.

  • The games-this-week edge

More games mean more stats. The Schedule Optimizer ranks every team by games and off-night starts for any week, the Streamer Finder ranks available players on the nights you need, and Schedule Edge prices rest, back-to-backs and travel as win-probability changes.

  • Goalie certainty, not guesswork

Every starter is marked Confirmed, Expected or Projected, and the status is checked every 15 minutes through the day. For the rest of the week, the goalie start planner gives each team’s probable starter a start probability.

  • Lines and power-play units from the shift charts

Line combinations and PP units are rebuilt from who actually shared the ice, game by game. Line Watch flags the changes that last, and Ascension shows whose role is growing.

  • An xG model you can inspect

Our expected goals model is trained on our own play-by-play data, and the methodology page lays out its features, how it is validated and its known limits. Every Edgehalla stat has a page like it, plus a plain-English glossary.

  • Free, and most of it needs no account

Everything is free right now, with no paywall. Projections, goalies, lines, planners and research pages are open to everyone; an account adds your league dashboard and email alerts.

  • Fast pages

Pages never call the NHL during a visit. Background jobs fetch the data, check every game against the official boxscore, store it, and refresh the affected pages, so what you open is ready and quick, even on a phone at the rink.

Our approach

Edgehalla is analysis, not hype. Every number comes from data we can point to and a method we have written down, and when a model has limits, the methodology pages say so. If you want to see everything the site does first, start with the feature guide; when you are ready to bring your league, follow the getting started steps.

Create a free account, connect your Fantrax or ESPN league and let the weekly dashboard do the counting, projecting and planning.

Frequently asked questions

What makes Edgehalla different from other fantasy hockey sites?

It processes NHL data itself: lines and power-play units come from the shift charts, goalies carry a certainty status checked every 15 minutes, and the expected goals model is our own and documented. Those feed a weekly dashboard for Fantrax and ESPN leagues, and it is free.

Is Edgehalla really free?

Yes. Every feature is free right now with no paywall, trial or card. Most tools do not need an account.

How do the matchup projections work?

They multiply each player’s per-game rates by his remaining games this week. Early in the season the rates blend last season with this one, starting at 100% last season in week 1 and moving to 100% this season by week 5. The projected totals then drive a win probability.

Does Edgehalla support points leagues?

Yes. In points leagues the dashboard projects fantasy points for you and your opponent and turns the gap into a win probability. Category leagues get projected totals and odds for each category.

Can I use Edgehalla with a Yahoo league?

Yahoo paused third-party API access in July 2026, so Yahoo league sync is temporarily unavailable. Every public page and tool still works for Yahoo managers; you just enter your choices rather than syncing a roster.

Where does the data come from?

Game data comes from the NHL’s public play-by-play, shift charts and boxscores for every game since 2017-18, plus NHL EDGE tracking data. LineupExperts supplies fantasy projections and starting-goalie confirmations. The data sources page lists each source, how often it refreshes and the checks it must pass.

Is Edgehalla a betting site?

No. Edgehalla is a fantasy hockey analytics site. Win probabilities describe your fantasy matchup, not betting lines, and the site does not offer or promote wagering.

Edgehalla is free right now: no paywall, no trial and no card required. Edgehalla is an independent site. It is not affiliated with, endorsed by or sponsored by the NHL, Yahoo, ESPN or Fantrax. Team and league names belong to their owners.
