Rookie pace and the Calder race
Rookies here are players the NHL flags as rookies: fewer than 25 games in any earlier season, no more than 6 in each of the two before, and under 26 on September 15. The table shows their 2026-27 scoring, ice time and a points pace: points per game times 84 games, which assumes the player keeps his role and plays every game.
Early-season rookie scoring is unstable. A rookie's shooting percentage swings hard in the first 20 games and coaches change rookie ice time often. Treat pace as a ceiling for October, and look at shots and power-play time for what lasts.
For fantasy, ice time and power-play role predict rookie scoring better than points so far. For the Calder, voters weigh full-season totals and position (defencemen and goalies win too), and the market price is a better forecast than any early pace.
