How common is a hat trick?
A hat trick is three or more goals by one player in a game. This page lists every one in 2026-27 from the official boxscores, with the result, and keeps a count by player since 2017-18 (803 hat tricks across our seasons).
Hat tricks are rare and lumpy: even elite scorers get a few a season, so a player's count over one season says more about luck than skill. Goals per game and shots per game are the stable inputs. Across a season the league produces roughly one hat trick every eight to ten games, and players who shoot a lot dominate the career list.
In fantasy the count is a fun stat; the goals are what matter. For betting, three-goal props are long shots priced off a player's goal rate; a recent hat trick does not change that rate much. Use the career list to see who gets them repeatedly: volume shooters on the top power play.
