How this works

The report merges the official NFL injury report (via nflverse, game status and practice participation) with Fantasy Nerds. When both list a player, the more recent update decides the game status and we name its source; practice participation always comes from the official report. nflverse rows carry no timestamp of their own this season, so their time is when we loaded them (daily).

The practice column shows the latest session on the report (Friday’s for a Sunday game). The day-by-day Wednesday and Thursday sessions are not in our feed yet.

Fantasy-relevant means a quarterback with half his team’s snaps, or a skill player with at least 30% of snaps, 8% of targets or 15% of carries over the team’s last 3 games (kickers always count). Who benefits: the injured player’s share of targets (carries for a lead back, the starting job for a QB) over the games he played in his team’s last 3 is spread over every healthy teammate in proportion to weight × their share in those same games, plus 5 points for the next man on the depth chart. Weights: same position 1, receivers and tight ends 0.6 for each other, other positions 0.25. Nobody can gain more than the vacated share, and the team still adds up to 100%. Depth charts are today’s, so they are used for the current week only.

Frequently asked questions

When does the NFL injury report come out?

Teams playing on Sunday file practice reports on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday, and the Friday report adds game statuses (Questionable, Doubtful, Out). Thursday-night teams report Monday to Wednesday. Inactives are announced 90 minutes before kickoff. Until the first report of the week, this page shows last week’s final statuses, clearly labelled.

What do DNP, LP and FP mean?

Did not practice, limited participation and full participation. A player who goes DNP on Wednesday and Thursday is a real risk to miss the game; a limited or full session by Friday usually means he plays. Veterans often get a rest day (DNP, not injury related) early in the week.

What does Questionable or Doubtful mean for fantasy?

Questionable means uncertain to play; most questionable players do play. Doubtful players rarely play, so treat them as out unless news says otherwise. Out means the player will not play. Have a backup plan for anyone questionable in a late game.

How do you decide who benefits from an injury?

We take the injured player’s share of his team’s targets or carries over his recent games, then spread it over his healthy teammates in proportion to their own share in those games: players at the same position count fully, receivers and tight ends count 0.6× for each other, and the next player on the depth chart gets a small bonus. Only fantasy-relevant absences are listed: at least 10% of targets, 20% of carries for a running back, or a starting quarterback (whose job goes to the depth chart backup).

Where does the injury data come from?

The official NFL injury report as published by nflverse (game status and practice participation), plus Fantasy Nerds for faster in-week status updates. When both have a player, we show the more recent update and name the source.
