What Shots Against measures
This board ranks NHL goalies by shots against, regular season only. Pick any season back to 2017-18 above the table. Shots on goal faced while in net, regular season.
A workload stat: starts and team shot suppression explain almost all of it.
Shots against counts every shot on goal a goalie faced. Starters on teams that bleed shots lead, which is why they also lead in saves. Shots against drive saves in points leagues; a busy goalie on a bad team can still score well there. In 2021-22, 4 goalies qualify for this board; the median is 592 and Ilya Samsonov leads at 1,145.
