What Goals per 60 measures
This board ranks skaters by goals per 60 minutes of ice time in all situations, so a fourth-liner who plays 9 minutes is compared fairly with a top-pair defenseman who plays 25. Players under the minimum-minutes cutoff are hidden. Goals per 60 minutes of ice time, all situations.
Rates settle faster than totals but need minutes: early in the season, low-minute players swing the most. A row needs at least 492 minutes to qualify, a bar that rises as the season goes on, so early leaders with a handful of games do not crowd the top.
Goals scored this season, every situation including the power play and empty nets. The goal race swings more than the points race, because shooting percentage runs hot and cold. Rates surface low-minute players who already produce; they are the ones to grab when an injury opens up ice time. In 2017-18, 601 skaters qualify for this board; the median is 0.54 and Patrik Laine leads at 1.95.
