How we calculate team HDCF%

Each attempt is graded by the zone method (location points, a bonus for rush or rebound, a penalty if blocked). Chances worth 3 or more points are high danger; we take the team share for and against at 5-on-5.

Why it matters for fantasy hockey

Goals in the slot are where most points come from. Teams that win the high-danger battle feed their net-front forwards, which shows up in goals more than assists.

How to read it

50% is even. A team well above its CF% here is getting to the middle of the ice; one below it is held to the outside.

Limitations

High-danger counts are a smaller sample than all attempts, so they swing more over a few weeks.

An attempt worth 3 or more points on the zone scale: most attempts from the net-front slot, and rush or rebound attempts from the wider slot. Blocked attempts lose a point.
Do high-danger chances predict goals?
Yes, they convert at several times the rate of other attempts, but xGF% uses more information and is the better single predictor.
