What Losses measures
This board ranks NHL goalies by losses, regular season only. Pick any season back to 2017-18 above the table. Regulation losses charged, regular season (overtime losses in OTL).
Losses are a team and workload stat: the busiest starters on bad teams top it.
A regulation loss is charged to the goalie in net for the goal that decides the game; overtime and shootout losses are counted separately (OTL). A few leagues score losses as a negative. High totals usually mean heavy usage on a weak team rather than poor play. In 2020-21, 98 goalies qualify for this board; the median is 6 and Jacob Markstrom leads at 19.
