NHL Projected Shutouts for Today

Shutouts are rare, valuable goalie events. We compute a shutout estimate internally, but it is not published yet: in our backtests its calibration among the top goalies was not good enough, so we are validating it against live results this season before showing numbers. Use goals-against average and save percentage in the meantime.

What makes a shutout? A goalie is credited with a shutout when he plays the whole game and allows no goals. Shootout goals do not count.

How often

in recent seasons roughly 4-6% of starts ended in a shutout.

What we are testing

an estimate of the form starts × c × e^(−goals against per start), where c is refitted on the current season every night. It got the league total close but not the top goalies, so it stays unpublished for now.

💡
Pro Tip: Shutouts follow low goals-against projections. Until we publish an estimate, the goals-against average page is the closest guide.

Premium Shutout Matchups

Elite goalies facing struggling offenses have the best shutout odds. Identify these premium opportunities.

All Goalies

Weak Offense Opponents

Teams averaging under 2.5 goals per game get shut out most often. Target goalies facing these opponents.

Shutout vs. Save Trade-off

High shutout odds often mean low save volume (weak opponents = few shots). Balance shutout upside with saves.
